1911. Pier with Joy Wheel and shooting gallery

The Joy Wheel was introduced onto the Pier in 1911 after its great success at the Brussels Exhibition, where it attracted a million people, and at Blackpool, where 500,000 people visited it in 10 weeks.

By the end of the Edwardian era holidaymakers were beginning to want more than promenading and theatrical entertainments, and the popularity of the Pier was beginning to flag. New attractions were added: in 1910 a bowling alley, a shooting gallery and amusements, and in 1911 the Joy Wheel at the entrance to the Pier.
