2014 workshop, making planters from original pier decking

An example of a 'Hands on Heritage' workshop, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and run by Hastings Pier Charity's Learning and Education department. This particular session gave local families the opportunity to recycle wood from the original pier structure and use the old decking to create new planters. Participants learnt about coastal plants and at the end of the workshop were able to take their planters with them enjoy a piece of Hastings Pier's history at home.

The Learning and Education team at Hastings Pier Charity ran a programme of events and activities along-side the rebuilding of the Pier, bringing students to Hastings Pier to be inspired by its history, construction, the physical space and the surrounding marine environment. Workshops provide a wide range of cross curricula and experiential learning opportunities for students of all ages.

The Learning team continues to offer a series of workshops supporting the National Curriculum. These are led by the Hastings Pier Charity Learning team or experienced freelance educators. Workshops can be adapted to suit different levels – for more information please visit hastingspier.org.uk
