Hand-tinted postcard of the Pier, 1950s

This hand-tinted postcard brings some colour back to the Pier after the grey years of the Second World War.

In the 1950s, Hastings Council promoted the town as a seaside resort, making a promotional film in bright Technicolour and producing colourful leaflets, all aimed at convincing potential holidaymakers that the town offered a glamorous alternative to what were still straightened post-war circumstances.
