Aerial view of the Pier after the 1917 fire

The end of the Pier remained a ruin for years after the 1917 fire.

The original elegant pavilion at the end of the Pier was destroyed by fire in 1917. In 1922 it was replaced with a large hangar-like structure, which had little of the character or finesse of its predecessor and was only designed for summer use. This building survived until the 2010 fire.
