Ashtons Grand Italian Band

Ashtons Grand Italian Band has here been placed in front of the Pier pavilion in a rather obvious turn-of-the-century case of cut and paste.

Holiday resorts were important places on the performance circuit, and Hastings Pier, as the only entertainment venue in the town open all year round, attracted famous international performers as well as local troupes. During the Edwardian period up to 750,000 people a year visited the pier, and up to 50,000 a week in peak season.
