The Bandstand and Pier by Night

In 1925 a lighting gantry was erected round the Pier extension, and throughout the next decade night illuminations were very much part of the romance of the Pier.

In the 1930s Hastings as a resort was at the height of it popularity, and many events took place outside at night when Alexandra Park, St Leonards Bathing Pool and the Piers were brilliantly lit. Not only did Hastings Pier have night concerts in the bandstand but there were also night speedboat trips, steamer excursions and mass swimming events, particularly night bathing when the sea was floodlit from the Pier.
