Early Pier View from the West Beach

The Pier pavilion was inspired by engineer Eugenius Birch’'s travels in Spain and India.

When it opened in 1872, Hastings Pier rested on a structure of 200 iron columns, each of which supported around 30 tonnes. The renovated Pier has over 300 iron columns, still combining strength, endurance and style. The Pier Visitors Centre stands on six new columns, each one of these supports a weight of 100 tonnes.
