Hastings Pier can be dimly seen in the background of this oil painting.

William Henry Borrow was a Hastings artist who was active between 1863 and 1893. He studied painting in London at Leigh’s school where his principal tutor was the Marine painter, James Danby. His annual exhibition at Carlisle Parade became a feature of town life and gave pleasure to thousands.
