This page from a Victorian Guide to Hastings features a shop that manufactured and sold seaweed decorations, "a speciality to Hastings". The shop facade is still visible in Trinity Street.
This unusual seaweed shop sold all types of seaweed and sea flowers and was said to rival any flower stall with its beautiful bouquets, which lasted years rather than days. The article describing the seaweed shop suggests that the seaweed could be used “as dress trimmings, table decorations, drawing room ornaments and in innumerable other ways. For yacht decorations they are simply invaluable.”
