Research Document - Arcade games on Hastings Pier

Different types of games found on the Pier from the Victorian era to the 1990s.

The first machines seen on piers were horse-race games, followed by strength testers, electric shock machines, phrenological machines, fortune telling and gambling machines. Vending machines dispensed matches, cigarettes, or chewing gum. It is not known which arcade games were on Hastings Pier from the 1950s, but any of those shown in the above book, would probably have featured.
