Hastings Pier has always been at the centre of entertainment in the town, it was often said that ‘it was the place  to see and be seen’. This was especially true in the 1950s and 1960s when popular culture and fashion were rapidly changing. The Pier offered dances, discos and concerts with the hippest bands of the era, as well as other opportunities to get dressed up, such as fashion shows, beauty pageants.
