The actual White Rock formerly stood just West of Priory Valley. The Rock increasingly became an obstacle to development of the town along the coast in the early 19th Century and was removed during 1834-5. This stretch of the seafront was previously named Stratford Place and Precursor Place before, becoming White Rock Place in 1881.
