Research Document on Orchestras on the Pier

Darcia's Military Band, photographed in Hastings in 1914.

Concerts were a regular part of the Pier’s programme from the beginning. Later in 1914, the Keith Prowse Orchestra performed on the Pier, the conductor was Mr James B Hastings. From the end of March 1915, a new Municipal Band was created by Hastings Corporation. As well as the orchestral concerts, there were the usual summer season entertainments provided by song and dance troupes- the ‘concert party’.
